Christmas Party Scout Games: Fun Ideas for the Festive Period
Hi thanks for the video . Is this really needed when you own a ultim comfort mattress ? I mean , that mattress is very comfortable, does the height makes a huge difference? Thanks again
I only use iron on material to set my crests while I SEW them on. Glue doesn't work for long term.
Does the Canadian Scout store sell Badge Glue? They singer in the UK hahahaha
We don't want have a Scout store since covid. Everything is online with expensive shopping. 🤬
When I first started 90% of the parents think their subs pay for us. None of them realised we were volunteers. We still get the new parents think we are paid. The older parents jump in even on the WhatsApp groups they remind the new parents that we are all volunteers. I have no problem with the name changes
This is cool. We'll try this at St. Croix Sea Scouts ⚜️
The rope game or the death trap 🙃
We have a regional camp in 2026, thinking about a Commonwealth Games Themed Camp, where each district would represent a continent and each group would be a country. Then we could also incorporate medal activities, foods. Have a UN or WOSM (Admin)...
What about cooking or melting snow for water in.a snow cave in a snow storm? In a well-built snow cave, the door is lower than the.sleeping/living area and is never closed. Then you poke a hold in the roof over the cooking area with a ski pole or the like as a vent for the hot cooking fumes. (You can close it later with a couple of hands full of snow if you like.)
Simple safety advice made clear 😊 Many camps ago, we were shown a video showing a real time demonstration of how long a hike tent lasts once it's set on fire....... the tent and most of the contents were gone before the kettle boiled 😣😥
Always carry at least one non cook meal on outings of any kind.
That’s top advice 👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you
I can only agree. On a trip as a youth, not as a scout, we had a Trangia, with a spirit burner, that tiped over, inside the tent. We got lucky, that the tent did not catch fire, and we stomped out the fire quickly. So never Cook inside the tent, thats wy we have rain clohthing 😊 or a tarp.
Oh my!!!! That was very lucky that your managed to extinguish the flames
I think that some of my Scouts live in bedrooms which are knee-deep in lost woggles.
Hahahhahahaha
Never use glue, horrible stuff
Also cannot find the glue survey
A couple of years ago I visited the BSA Shop in Tampa, Florida. Got chatting to the nice lady who was serving that day and in that store, they sell the uniforms with all the badges already sewn on. While we were there a new Scout came in with his parents to buy his uniform and I watched how she sewed on the group number badges... What she did was stuck them on with temporary material adhesive then sewed them on properly with a machine (none of this hand stitching malarky). At the time I was sewing badges onto uniforms as a fund raiser for my son's WSJ trip and I started doing this. Makes positioning the badges much easier and sewing quicker but personally I HATE seeing uniform badges hanging off because they have been glues on and the back has started to delaminate.
Legitimately would like to try this in my yard at some point to see if it would be good to bring to the group in the fall, can you please point me to a description of the specs for the items to light and what lighting equipment is allowed? We just use the one wooden match challenge here so far. Not even using a creative name.
Tbh with you , it’s just 4 pieces if Cooper pipe cut at 1 metre long length…. That’s it
Do they need to be of a particular diameter? Also, we don't see a load of cotton rope commonly over here (though oddly I can source it), so what did you fill the tops of the pipes with? Does it matter how far apart they are? Over here in my part of Canada we haven't heard of the other challenge you mentioned either, but I can leave that for another day. Related to the lighting gear, to compete with the video fairly for practice, would it need to be those small rods and strikers, or would replacing the striker with the spine of my knife be allowed?
@Delenne_Russell cotton wool- used for makeup removal
I prefer to sew. This way, you can move them round on your blanket. I just enjoy sewing, something I can do whilst watching the telly. Gluing badges onto uniforms means the uniform can't be handed down which is a shame. Over the last two nights I've sewn 40 badges onto group neckers.
Glue then sew. I find sewing tricky, but if you glue then first it holds it in place making sewing much easier, particularly given that I was trying invisible stitching and sewing only partly through the outer edge. All this said, I'm a massive fan of a sewing machine. I've found glue by itself falls off and never lasts more than a few runs through a wash, I don't trust my badges to stay on.
I use the basting adhesive to hold it on and then sew around the edge of the badge.
You get your wife to teach you how to sow
If only it was easy as that
@@bigmaninthewoods ok so you need to bride her Or get the motherlaw auntie Stop using glue
What I do, I glue them first, then I saw them it’s a lot easier for me
What glue do you use?
the glue I news is from the scout shop store
No glue for all the reasons you mentioned - looks great and feels done until you use the blanket around a fire, in the cold, or damp or all 3 in one weekend. Plus, I think some of my badges are from international folks - would hate to find out they went missing right? Like others, just means I have tubs of badges to get busy and get sewing. Or maybe a Hoody/Jumper for favourite badges, and blanket for long term memories. Someday I'll get it done ;]
Haha yes “someday” haha
i finally got around to sewing my camp blanket badges on, and i think it's was worth the extra time. gluing the badges on is just so temping.
Ah nice 1 and congrats. I need to learn how to sew properly and make it look neat, tidy and straight
I occasionally use a tiny amount of hemming strip to attach badges temporarily to hold them in place before sewing but I never use glue to actually hold on the badges For uniform the best thing is to use an embroidery hoop to keep tension in the fabric before sewing
I would love to be able to sew neatly
Never used glue, only ever been one way to attach badge needle & thread. The other leaders have learnt don't mention badge glue in front of me it's like using a swear word. 😆
I love sewing badges on my blanket. It also allows me to move them around if I need to make space for new badges. I also sew badges on my Cubs' uniforms for parents for a small fee that I put back into scouting.
Basic sewing is a skill that should be taught TBH, I learned to sew by putting my badges onto my uniform, I also learned how to sew buttons on. This modern day and age encourages to much “short cutting”.
I got into a heated discussion about this topic. People are happy not to repair clothes but just to buy and replace it
I used it once, badge glue made a real mess when I needed to remove it
We all make mistakes , but it’s about learning from those mistakes
I don't use glue. But, then again my camp blanket has got exactly one badge on it while my badge box is bulging!
Haha I know that feeling dude!!
Here's some ideas what to do with old Scout Badges instead of a Camp Blanket :- ua-cam.com/video/7rd_0ueOVI8/v-deo.htmlsi=l4D-HmT0t0VEJa9Q
